Ballistic-X App

Information

Ballistic-X is an application for your phone that allows you to easily measure your group sizes. I have been shooting for awhile and something that is always referenced when discussing reloading, factory ammunition and rifles is group size. We typically shoot 5 round groups at 100 yards to test the performance of a rifle or ammunition. I have used several tools over the years to do this. I’ve used rulers, calipers, stencils and software for Windows computers (On-Target).

Once mobile phones progressed into handheld computers and app’s became available I used Sub-MOA. Sub-MOA felt very familiar and reminded me of the On-Target program I used on my laptop computer. The app got the job done but seemed dated. Below is an example of groups measured using Sub-MOA. The ruler is in the image to provide a known size and the groups were shot at a known distance allowing for the software to calculate the group size.

Ballistic-X app set out to provide a similar tool as Sub-MOA but took a lot of input from the shooting community to make it more intuitive to use. The aesthetics of the app are much more contemporary and workflow functions like; saving images, changing units of measurement and labeling groups are easier. Ballistic-X works the same way by using a known size and distance to calculate your groups. The example below I used the 0.75″ square on the target as the size reference. The labeling is nice when keeping track of results.

Ballistic-X app is available on both iTunes and Google Play. The cost is $7.99 and currently has a 4.9 star rating. Since the launch of the app there has heen multiple updates to improve features and functionality. Nomad Innovations, LLC also has plans to expand the app by offering additional capabilities and tools. I am looking forward to new tools like multi-group processing and a rifle log to save information on a particular rifle, load or factory ammunition.

Ballistic-X is the easiest way to calculate shot groups and to Zero a rifle! Designed by shooters, the simple and intuitive interface allows user to setup their own parameters via our settings menu. Options includes MOA/MIL, Imperial/Metric, and will work with any target including Steel. BX also offers useful data and labeling options that aid in Load Development. ATZ (Adjustment To Zero) feature tells shooter how much to adjust turrets to bring rifle to Zero, allowing a perfect zero with fewer rounds shot. ATZ works dynamically at any range and is compatible with all turret options!

Workflow is simple:

  • Take image of Target (within App or from Library)
  • Designate reference size in settings menu
  • Mark the two points on target which coincide with reference (grid target or steel target)
  • Input distance from Target
  • Mark Point Of Aim and Impacts
  • Add Overlay, Label, and Export
  • Adjust Optic according to ATZ

Ballistic-X is a community driven App committed to the best user experience possible along with customer service second to none!
