OSS Suppressors: HX-QD 762 Ti
OSS Suppressors is the home of Flow-Through™ technology. The HX-QD line is the second generation of this technology. The model we’ve been given the opportunity to use is the HX-QD 762 Ti. The best way for me to describe Flow-Through™ technology is by saying instead of baffles, the core of the suppressor looks more like the compressor of a turbine engine. Our first order of business was to test host rifle accuracy on our DMR Shorty 6.5mm (pictured above). The HX-QD 762 Ti attaches to the host rifle via QD mount. The mount uses 5/8″ x 24 threads and is available in muzzle brake & comp versions. The suppressor turns LH (counter clock wise) to secure to the mount.
I began testing host rifle accuracy by shooting a 5 round group at 100 yards without the suppressor attached using only the QD-762 Muzzle Brake to set a base line. Then I attached the HX-QD 762 Ti suppressor and shot another 5 round group. We were very impressed with the result, especially when considering the suppressor mounts via quick detach. The shift between suppressed and unsuppressed point of impact was just under 1″. Below is an image of our results.
OSS Suppressors’s Flow-Through™ technology also virtually eliminates back pressure, which typically comes hand in hand with utilizing a suppressor. This makes it a standout for use on semi-auto platforms, especially those which are over gassed. I began using the HX-QD 762 Ti suppressor on my 7″ .300 BLKOUT. I removed my Spring Co. “blue” action spring & H3 buffer. I replaced it with a factory carbine action spring & buffer. The lack of back pressure meant I could do away with the added weight in the buffer used to slow the bolt carrier group. This allowed my rifle to cycle both subsonic & supersonic ammunition with, or without the suppressor attached. I must admit though, my parts gun can be picky with which factory ammunition it will do that with. Winchester 125 gr. Open Tip supersonic and Sellier & Bellot 200 gr. FMJ subsonic have been my go-to for the .300 BLKOUT.
HX-QD 762 Ti Spec’s:

We wanted to expand more on the OSS’s suitability for semi-auto platforms so I contacted Jermey Tye and was able to meet with him at Desert Sportsman Rifle & Pistol Club to do some host rifle accuracy & return to zero testing using his LaRue PredatAR 7.62 rifle. Below are the results with the LaRue shooting 5 round groups at 100 yards with Federal Gold Medal Match .308 Winchester ammunition. Jermey removed and re-installed the OSS HX-QD 762 Ti in between each group. We were very impressed with the results both on our DMR Shorty 6.5mm and Jermey’s LaRue, but it wasn’t without incident. We are not sure why but the LaRue had difficulty functioning properly with the suppressor attached (we tried both gas block positions). We ran the rifle without the suppressor and it functioned without incident so we are not 100% sure at this point what is causing the problem. I contacted Randy at OSS and he described cases where bolt carrier speed actually decreased on certain platforms with the HX-QD attached and in those incidents the suppressor bled-off more gas than using the mount only.
The OSS Suppressors HX-QD 762 Ti has performed excellent in our host rifle accuracy and point of impact tests (POI). We did have issues with cycling on the LaRue PredatAR using FGMM but we’ll have to investigate that further to figure it out. Suppression performance seemed to lack when utilizing sub-sonic ammunition and a .300 BLK SBR host, but sounded comparable to other suppressors when utilizing super sonic ammo with a large frame AR. This is opinion based on my ears and not a scientific conclusion. The OSS HX-QD 762 Ti is compact, light and accurate. The QD system is excellent based on our results and Flow-Through™ technology has a benefit for gas guns, although we experienced an issue.
